The VIU Information Technology department is a dynamic group of 46 part time and full time IT professionals who love technology and its power to transform. We use our collective knowledge and experience to help people, solve problems, and support Vancouver Island University's teaching, learning, and administration services.

IT Client Services's mission is to facilitate and support the ways our communities interface with VIU technologies. The client services team includes the IT Helpdesk and the Technology and User Support teams.
The Helpdesk team is the central point of support when you have a question related to the VIU technology products and procedures. They process all technology related incidents and requests and analyze support data to identify current support trends and risks.
Technology and User Support services are accountable for the delivery of IT Technology Services that directly support the end user experience. This entails the effective administration, maintenance and support of VIU's end user infrastructure as well as technical and ongoing support to students, faculty and staff to resolve software and hardware related issues for workstations, computer labs, laptops, and software.
As these technicians often work with employees at their desks to resolve problems, this team is the most widely recognized part of the IT Department.
IT Enterprise Systems provide software development, maintenance, and implementation services to manage institutional data and support business processes and teaching and learning activities. They also enable integration of institutional teaching, learning and administrative systems and data analytics.
The Infrastructure team includes the Server Services team and the Network Services team.
Server services is responsible for the acquisition, configuration, and reliable operation of servers to centrally store and maintain all data and applications and ensures the protection of all data and technology through security software and data backups.
In addition this team researches and implements new infrastructure technology designed to support learning and the growing needs of the Vancouver Island University community.
Network services provides all aspects of networking support for Vancouver Island University including architecture, design, acquisition, installation, operation, monitoring, maintenance, and documentation.
They promotes reliable and secure date and voice networks, mobile computing, inter-campus communication and strategic planning for information technology solutions related to networking and voice communications.
The web management team enables VIU's presence on the Web. They maintain the web architecture and support web content editors across all campuses, associated institutes and centers.
They are also responsible for institution intranet, InVIU as well as the digital signage at the VIU campuses, Milner Gardens and Woodland and the Deep Bay Marine Field Station.
