Reducing the amount of paper used when printing not only helps to reduce carbon footprint and save trees, it can also help save money in the cost of printing. Here are a few tips for ways to reduce the amount of paper used when printing documents.
A campaign is underway to change the world by changing paper margins. The following website encourages computer users to change their printer margins settings to 0.75 inch on all sides of a document. The default setting is usually 1 inch to 1.25 inches. According to one study, this small act reduces paper use by 4.75 per cent. Multiply that by the 2.9 tonnes of paper Canadians use annually, and we could save more than three million trees (not to mention energy costs and waste products). Suddenly changing your margins doesn't seem so insignificant.http://www.changethemargins.com/
Some campus printers support double-sided (duplex) printing. While double-sided printing may not always be appropriate, any time you do you do print duplex you save 50% of the paper.
- Save time: Automatic duplex printing saves you time by allowing you to print double‐sided without having to wait and reinsert the pages yourself.
- Save space: Less paper takes up less room. It’s that simple!
- Shrink your carbon footprint: Beyond the trees that go into making paper, there is also an environmental impact to transporting paper and producing it; imagine lessening that impact by half!
Why not print more than one 'page' per sheet of paper. In some documents, especially handouts or slides, fonts are quite large and there is usually a lot of white space. This makes them easy to read in a PowerPoint presentation, but wastes a lot of paper when printed.=15.1699pxPrint Preview in PowerPoint will show you what your print job will look like with multiple pages per sheet. You can adjust it if the text becomes difficult to read. For Adobe .pdf documents, the print preview will show up right in the Print window.Always check before you print, reprinting because the first print job was too small wastes more paper.topUse Less Ink
Does every print job need that showroom shine? For working, or temporary, documents why not use less ink by lowering your Print Quality. Depending on the printer model there are many ways to measure print quality. The setting may be in dots per inch (dpi) or quality (Best, Normal or Draft) or resolution or Economy mode, EconoMode or something else. This information is usually listed under the Quality tab (or Print Quality, Paper/Quality, etc.) in Printer Properties.
