Wireless: How do I connect my device to EDUROAM?

The guidance offered in this document is to be executed by the user, at the user's own risk. Because user-owned equipment is subject to variability in capability and configuration, we cannot guarantee connectivity to VIU's network services.

Use of eduroam is subject to the terms and conditions specified in VIU's Policy on Use of Information Technology.

What is eduroam?

The eduroam (education roaming) network is a world-wide roaming service that allows students, faculty, and staff access to wireless services at cooperating universities without obtaining a guest account. Users visiting participating institutions can log in to the eduroam wireless network using the same credentials they would at their home institutions.

Visiting Students, Faculty, and Staff

Students, faculty, and staff from other participating institutions can log in to eduroam while visiting the VIU campus. The information below will allow you to connect to the VIU eduroam network    

Network / SSID : eduroam
Username : Your institution account username
Password: Your institution account password
Network Authentication Method: WPA2-Enterprise
Data Encryption Settings: AES (WPA2) or TKIP (WPA) EAP Type P
EAP Authentication Protocol: MSCHAPv2
Domain: (AndroidOS 8 or higher devices only) If prompted for a Domain, enter viu.ca

Current VIU Students, Faculty, and Staff

Students, faculty, and staff from VIU will use their computer account credentials in the following format:

Students username: username@viu.ca (Note: username is the VIU  computer account username that you use to log in to computers on VIU Campuses. For students, this will be your Student number.)
Employee username: username@viu.ca  (Note: username is the VIU  computer account username that you use to log in to computers on VIU Campuses. For employees, this will be your last name followed by your first initial. IE: doej)
Password: The password associated with the specific account is required and is always case sensitive
Network Authentication Method: WPA2-Enterprise
Data Encryption Settings: AES (WPA2) or TKIP (WPA) EAP Type P
EAP Authentication Protocol: MSCHAPv2
Domain: (AndroidOS 8 or higher devices only) If prompted for a Domain, enter viu.ca
