What is Microsoft 365?

Microsoft 365 is a subscription-based productivity suite available for free to VIU students and employees.

VIU offers access to Microsoft 365 Apps on the web and available on your own device.

*Students are currently eligible to download Microsoft 365 using their @stumail.viu.ca virtual email address. Students are not part of the main VIU tenant and will not have access to some features.

Students may opt to use OneDrive at their own risk but should be warned:

  • OneDrive for students is currently unsupported by IT.
  • Students are not part of the main VIU Microsoft 365 tenant. VIU does not manage the stumail tenant and has no access to data stored in it.
  • OneDrive data for students is currently stored in the United States.
  • Data could disappear and they should keep a backup.

You can access Microsoft 365 apps on the web.

VIU currently uses a combination of Office 2013 and 2016 on all university managed computers, so you will not be able to install Microsoft 365 apps.
