I Can't Log In or I Forgot My Password. What Do I Do?

If you are unable to log in to your VIU account, please follow the instructions below to reset your password.

Steps to recover your password

Students have two types of accounts

  1. Student Record: This account is only used for logging in to your student record.

  2. Computer Account: This account is used for logging in to computers on campus, VIU-Secure Wi-Fi, and VIULearn (D2L). The password for this may be different than your student record.

If you are not able to log in to your computer account, Wi-Fi, or VIULearn it is possible that your computer account password may have expired.

  1. Go to the student record page. Type your student number in the "student number" field.

  2. Click I forget my Password

  3. Type in the email address on file in your student record

  4. Click Email my Online Student Record Password

  5. You will receive two emails from VIU, one will contain a temporary password. Copy your password to the clipboard. Use that temporary password to log in to your student record.

  6. You will be prompted to change your password. Use the temporary password provided as the current password.

  7. You may also want to change your computer account password. Follow the steps below.

  1. Log in to your student record

  2. From the left pane at the very bottom, select Personal Information, then VIU Computer and VIULearn Account to change your student computer account password.

Are you a new employee?

New employees will receive their username, email address, employee ID number, and default password from their manager. You will not be able to log in to any VIU systems until you change your password from the default.

  1. Go to https://reset.viu.ca
  2. Use the temporary password provided by your manager as the current password
